This is the last of the recipes I made from Nancy Mehagian’s foodoir, Siren’s Feast, An Edible Odyssey. It was the perfect compliment to the other dishes (scroll on down) we had at our book-party dinner discussion–very light and refreshing. What makes it really special (and who would have thought of this?): cinnamon. It adds such unexpected flavor. I thought, as Emma said when she saw it, eew…but it’s great. Promise. And, it’s all so easy: Just slice and sprinkle!
Serves 6
1 large purple onion, sliced in thin rounds
3 navel oranges, peeled and sliced in rounds
Juice of 1 lemon
Cinnamon
Arrange onion and orange slices on a platter. Squeeze lemon juice over them and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Great idea, never seen this association before

Oh, how fresh and tasty that looks. I had this salad in Morocco with black olives scattered over it and a trickle of olive oil too. So good, and so simple.

I would have never thought of that combo in a million years. I like all that stuff separately, so why not put it together?
Thanks!
